Why Do Cars Break Down in the Winter?

The last thing anyone wants to happen, especially in the winter, is have their vehicle break down on the side of the road.

The GEICO.COM website has a great article explaining what causing our vehicles to break down when it is cold outside.

Even if you take all precautions to keep your vehicle from breaking down, always be prepared and have an emergency kit with you. Curious what should be in an emergency kit, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation breaks it down for you HERE.

4 common causes of winter car breakdown:

  1. Car overheating – In the winter months the oil runs thicker making it harder to it to circulate and keep your car running smoothly
  2. Dead battery – Batteries have a harder time producing a charge in winter
  3. Squealing noise when you start the vehicle – Hearing this noise may mean your radiator has frozen and cracked
  4.  Bald or under inflated tires – Either of these issues will make it harder for your tires to grip the road or dig into loose surfaces
