How to Make Your Heater Work Best For You

We all know it, and considering we live here, we have all accepted it…Wisconsin winters can be BRUTAL! Lets face it, we know there will be those days that the thermometer reads negative numbers. No one wants to ride around in a freezing cold car. We want our cars to warm up as fast as possible. The Consumer Reports website has a great article about what should be done to keep your car warm!

Here is a list to help maximize your vehicle’s heater:

  1. Get the car moving – the quicker your engine creates heat, the quicker it can warm your passengers
  2. High will not speed up the heat – until your car is up to temperature, turning on high will not do anything but force more cold air into your car
  3. Keep the A/C on – keeping the A/C isn’t going to cool your car, but instead keep your windows from fogging up
  4. Don’t use the recirculation mode – bringing in fresh air will help keep your windows clear
  5. Crack a window – if you have many passengers, cracking a window will release some of the moisture in the air
  6. Higher fan speeds help the backseat – this helps ensure the warmer air makes it to the backseat
  7. Keep it as warm as you like – heat is generated by the engine so it is free!
